Sonia’s adventure in tennis began in 2014 when she was only 5y old.
Because she was a very energetic toddler, her teacher advised us, her parents, to find a sport that she likes. Thus, she practiced figure skating for 2 seasons and at 4y old she tried swimming.
At 5 she took the racquet.
In 6 months since she hit the first ball, she was selected for 1 year scholarship by Stejarii Country Club (Ion Tiriac ‘s sport club). It was the moment when her love for tennis began.
At 8y old she played her first tournament in the National Circuit and in the same year qualified on the main draw at the National Championships U10 category.
In 2019, at 10y old, she was runner-up at the Romanian National Championships U10 and got the 2nd place.
Sonia loves to interact and play occasionally with Romanian and international top players.
She played with Simona Halep during an event in Bucharest (Pescariu Club), made doubles with Horia Tecau during a charity event in AFI Controceni andeven practiced for 15 minutes with Gabriela Ruse on the hardcourts of the National Tennis Center.
Her love for tennis took her, at just 8y old, as volunteer, in the ball kids team at the WTA tournament in Bucharest. She enjoyed her job and for 3 years in a row, until pandemic, Sonia was ball kid at the Bucharest Open every July.
The pandemic made very difficult for kids to practice and remain on top of their game.
During 2020 Sonia focused on training, as much as possible and played less tournaments, especially because of the restrictions.
She came back more powerful in 2021 when she got 3 titles in the 4 finals (singles and doubles) played in 2 Tennis Europe tournaments held in Greece (Ptolemaida and Patras).
